Sometimes we will dip into worksheet type activities for maths and writing, not too often. And most definitely not when the kids are really not up for it.
But something inside me loves it when we spend time together, doing what is obviously maths, for over an hour and with a 5 year old. Fun was had. Screams of joy. And lots of good hard thinking from my 5 year old.
This specific example was from playing Triominos.
I kept track of the score, but he added up each and every tile he added on. That’s a lot of sums and practice for basic sums!
Plus, this was right before bedtime on a Sunday evening during school holidays. Learning does not need to happen during normal hours.
